1980s

Community Radio Begins

Radio Northland grew out of the community radio movement that swept Aotearoa in the 1980s, giving a voice to the people of Te Tai Tokerau — the Far North.

1990s

Serving Te Tai Tokerau

Through the 1990s Radio Northland established itself as the go-to station for Northland communities, delivering local news, music, and kōrero to listeners across the region on 87.6 FM.

2000s

Growing the Network

Radio Northland expanded its reach and programming, building strong ties with iwi, local businesses, and community organisations throughout Northland.

2010s

Digital Expansion

The station embraced digital broadcasting, making Radio Northland accessible online and through new platforms — bringing the sounds of the North to listeners wherever they are.

2025

Partnership with Radio Aotearoa

Radio Northland joined the Radio Aotearoa network, combining local Northland programming with national content to deliver the best of both worlds to listeners across Te Tai Tokerau.
